A few years back there was a remarkable story in the LA Times about an undocumented gardner who had been shot in the cross fires of a drive by shooting. After being treated at the hospital he was told he had a non-life threatening bullet lodged just inches from his heart. Without insurance an expensive and potentially dangerous operation to remove the bullet was out of the question.

But in a shining example of the type of vibrancy, humility and selflessnes instead of taking a few days off this man made his way back to one of his client’s homes for some unfinished business. One of his clients had been excited about her upcoming Christmas party and wanted some special outdoor gardening and decoration done.
LA Times columnists Steve Lopez wrote a great piece about the family after visiting to get to know them. Click here to read this story.
