The Sound Strike

Tell the LA City Council to vote no on the Red Lights Program.

In May of 2010 the Los Angeles City Council voted to boycott the State of Arizona over the passage of SB1070. However, for the last 14 months the boycott has been an empty threat.[1]

Thanks to the work of a coalition of activists the Los Angeles City Council has began preparation to fully enact an ordinance boycotting Arizona until SB1070 is repealed or completely ruled unconstitutional. The Sound Strike has supported these efforts and we ask for your support.

Arizona based company American Traffic Solutions is based in Scottsdale, Arizona and currently runs the the Red Light Camera program. This program is set to expire at the end of July. The Los Angeles City Council Budget and Finance Committee will take this matter up soon.

We need your help to make sure the program is terminated unless the Scottsdale, Arizona company proposing the work, moves out of Arizona, which it is considering.[2]

Act now! Please email the Los Angeles City Council Members of the Budget and Finance Committee and tell them to vote no on the Red Lights Program.

Subject: Vote no on the Red Lights Program.

The passage of SB 1070 was not only a horrible way to legislate needed immigration reform, it was a blow to human rights in America. Since Arizona’s SB1070 other State’s have followed Arizona’s dangerous path of locally enforcing immigration laws.

Arizona also has a scary history of abuse of immigrant workers, communities, students and prison abuse. The infamous Sheriff Joe is also under federal investigation for civil rights violations. It has been reported that the Arizona legislature was heavily inspired by the Immigration Reform Law Institute (IRLI) that has been described by the Southern Law Poverty Center as a hate group.

It has also been reported that the private prison industry was heavily involved in writing and promoting SB 1070 at a conference sponsored by The American Legislative Change Council (ALEC). Please vote no on the extension of the Red Lights Program.
